God I Hate this Man

George W. Bush "believes the Israelis have the right to protect themselves,"(…)

As American’s were defending themselves in Afghanistan & Iraq and will most likely defend themselves (and Israel) soon enough in Iran and Syria too, it’s just dandy that more than sixty people (most of which innocent civilians) have already been killed and more will certainly die in the defense of two Israeli soldiers who were kidnapped and eight Israeli soldiers who were killed in that raid.

Let’s count; 10 Israeli soldiers, who were extensively trained for war for more than 60 innocent civilians (and counting), who have nothing to do with war.

Sure equates to ’defense’ in my opinion.

Now might be an appropriate time I mention that one of my best friends is currently ‘on vacation’ with her family in South Lebanon. And I haven’t been able to reach her. I know of many who are waiting for their loved ones to return to the UAE in apprehension just now.

It’s disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. And it’s getting harder and harder for me to ignore.

Perhaps it’s time the Middle East got together and started defending itself against the world’s most notorious terrorist, his whole regime, and closest allies in the same manner that they’re defending themselves over here?

Bush is a born again Christian, he must believe in the divine fairness of ‘an eye for an eye’. So, let’s add up the defense strategies he used against Iraq, Afghanistan & the ones he’s condoning in Palestine & Lebanon, get our shit together and make our way to American and soil and defend the ourselves against these invasions. And while we’re there, let’s not forget the defense techniques used towards suspected terrorists in those Secret American Prisons, and use the same laws & guidelines to define & detain suspects in our interests.

I’m nothing more than a little western woman who’s watching all of this from a distance and I almost feel that any terror that falls on the American government in response to its continued support of Israel’s atrocities alongside its own defense techniques is pretty-much warranted and quite possibly the only way to put an end to the world’s biggest bully. I believe a reaction is coming.

How much do you want to bet that extremists are currently plotting their defense strategy against America as I speak? How much do you want to bet, the next hit on American soil will be far more catastrophic than 9/11?

Bush is condoning terror all around the world. He’s inviting terror to the American public. He’s once again fueling the violent fires in the Middle East while inviting extremists to expand the war field from here to there. If anyone deserves to be blown up, if anyone deserves to have their entire life shattered, it’s this man. I’m pretty sure that there are other’s who feel more passionately about this and I'm pretty sure that they also believe any innocent lives lost along the way will be a small price to pay in retaliation to all those lost and who are bound to be lost under his hand, over here.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. How much do you want to bet Bush himself taught his children this simple, clichéd moral only to ignore it himself? Three wrongs may very well be the conception of WWIII. Am I the only one who sees this coming?

In his defence, Bush has no grounds on which to condemn the Israeli attacks - if America told Israel to exercise military restraint when it can't seem to do the same itself, that would be hypocritical. Just so we're clear though, I don't support the military invasion of Iraq and especially the recent attacks on Lebanon.

But I do believe the US has a serious interest in a strong, independent Lebanon - it's been Bush's poster child for a diverse, progressive democracy in the Middle East. The culprits here are the Hezbollah - who have something to gain by destabilizing Lebanon - and more importantly Israel - for attacking a country that it knows is not responsible for the violence, and is helpless to prevent it or defend itself. If they went after Syria or Iran, that would be a little more understandable - still condemnable, but at least understandable. But to take on a country that's making a serious attempt to pull itself out of a mess is just fucking senseless and inhuman.

So let's put the blame where it lies - America is in a catch-22 situation. You can blame them for getting into it in the first place, but there's not much they can do to solve this one.

Just because something would be hypocritical, doesn’t make it alright. The Bush administration has taken this quest for ‘peace’ far enough, as far as I’m concerned. None of this would be possible if it weren’t for American influence, support and approval of these heinous atrocities.

Sort of like, Saddam would never have become the tyrant he was, if it weren’t for the initial support of America.
.
Hezbollah attacked military targets. Israel is attacking civilians. Do you have any idea how many tourists are in Lebanon now? From all over the world? Who can’t get out, because of this? How is America (world’s #1 warrior against terror) condoning this, at all? How can anyone stand behind this? And shouldn’t the American public be speaking up, out of the possible consequences that public may very well have to face at the hand of extremists because of Bush’s adamant support of Israel, no matter what Israel does?

And in the mess of it all, innocent Israelis, Palestinians, & Americans are all dying at increasing rates. This man, and this man alone is doing nothing to prevent terror, but has rather twisted its meaning, brainwashed his own public, and destroyed the future for everyone under the guise of ‘peace seeking’. He is creating international concern for security, and instilling seeds of fear in everyone. That is terrorism at its best.

Violence begets violence. The man supports violence; thus is dragging on world war three.

Did you miss the bit when I clearly said I was against the attacks? And about Bush's incompetence, I completely agree (as does most of the college-educated population) - I just don't think there's anything he can do to ease the current situation.

No hun, I didn't miss it. But I disagree with 'there's nothing he can do'

He can start by NOT condoning terror all over the world; starting with Israel, rather than publicly making such outrageous statements as the one quoted in this entry.

Making outrageous statements is his forte - and in fact his primary claim to fame.

I think much of America is waiting for it, or at least anyone with half a brain, which does not, perhaps, include the president of this idiotic country I live in.
You are a western woman, watching from afar... I am still here, half disgusted and half despairing because I feel like my hands are tied.
I do not feel I can condone Israels attacks any more than I can condone the myriad of attacks they feel they are retaliating against. The same goes for the attacks by America.
It would be nice if governments could fight their wars and leave the innocents out of it (although better yet to just stop fighting altogether), but we seem very far from there at this point.
And at this point, Israel will mostly react as they please, with or without the 'support' of Bush and the American government.

It is as you said though... it is the innocents that are suffering all around the world.
And not just from senseless violence, but from the hatred and blind finger-pointing as well.

karachi

The people you see leaving are civilians not soldiers. It is summer time. Lebanon is a favorite vacation place for the entire middle east.

Karachidude- Lebanon barely has an army, they are mainly there to maintain public order thus you do not see them defending the country or retaliating the attacks, the total strenght of the army is aproximately 60,000- including troops, reserves, and command structure. A total of 11 Brigades. The Syrian Army had a huge presense in lebanon untill April of 2005. Their excuse for the presense was to defend Lebanon from Israels attacks. But after hariri's assasination they had to leave. Now Lebonon is not capable of defending its borders let alone fighting back.

Karachidude- FYI according to wikipedia lebanese airforce has no aircrafts, it has 30 old helicopters and 4 new ones for training, none capable or equipped for a war. And the navy consists of 7 patrol boats and 2 landing crafts (probably hovercrafts). how to you expect to see this army fighting a war against a much larger, well equipped and well trained army.

Well...my friend is in the south of lebanon as well.. she recently headed towards the mountains..if u do reach ur friend tell her to go north.. its the safest place so far... Stick to the christian suburbs ..

I hate how america plays favourites with its 'war on terror' ideology.. israelis torching civilians trying to escape not a terrorist act? Not to american..nor israel..
maybe if lebanon had large oil reserves.. well.. things would be different wouldnt it?

Olmert is a cheapshot and should be skinned alive slowly .. i cant believe that he makes sharon a look like an angel (of sorts)

Q8ibloger, welcome to my humble little home here. And thank you for your thoughts on this.

DR, thank you. Honestly I don’t have the details on the Lebanese military myself so I appreciate the information you’ve given us all, much.

Inji, so many of us have friends or family there just now. It’s horrific. Simply horrific.

And TT thank you much. You’re absolutely right.

All of you talk about the USA and Bush but none talked about the role of Israel and its secondary gain on the distablization of Lebanon, Syria and Iran.
"But I do believe the US has a serious interest in a strong, independent Lebanon " give me a break....thats the the most stupid thing I have read so far...

HL&L, in my anti-American defense (LOL), I have to say though I have absolutely no facts or historical statements to base this, I can’t help but feel Israel wouldn’t be half of what it is without the support of Good old USA.

If the US didn’t defend Israel to the UN and the rest of the world, they couldn’t get away with it; period.

I believe if American support was gone, Israel would have one HELL OF A TIME not only keeping its name on the map, but also being heard by the rest of the world. Everyone, except the US is fed up of Israeli tactics. But the US is seemingly stronger than everywhere else put together.

Iran & Syria too much for the American Army (along side the Israeli Army)?

I doubt it. And pretty soon, I'm sure that's where America is headed.
