Should Have Been Published in 7Days and Not Gulf News

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

How the FUCK is it morally correct, or even responsible for a parent to leave a nine-year old alone in the house; and better still, TILL MIDNIGHT!?

Where I come from there’s a word for this, “NEGLECT”. And neglecting your children can result in your Social Services taking your child(ren) away from you and putting them up for adoption.

This is a BIG YaY for both the officer who cheerfully helped this chap get into his house and the parent who needs parenting classes; and can’t blame others should his son befall some tragic accident or nasty fate, while home alone.

At least there’d be a chance, had this been published in 7Days rather than Gulf News, that ONE letter would be published in response, putting this ‘father’ in his place.

weirdness.. i would think dubai police is to blame.. they should have locked up the woman in the station and left the son sleeping...

the next day, call in social services.

I don't know if social services exists here... does it? I know there's a human rights dept. in the police, but from my experience they don't do much to help but offer counselling.

But yeah, the officer was an idiot for not at least lecturing the guy (I'm assuming had he done so, the man wouldn't be writing such a glowing letter about him to the news), and the guy himself is an idiot for thinking that's an ok thing to do.

i was going to say something but then i just realized it's a mix of both urs and buj's comment :)

i think the police should have lectured the guy on parenting, instead of smiling and being the sweet customer service guy.

I have a feeling that GN published this not as a favor to the letter writer or to help him highlight his gratitude to the cops in public, but to actually invite such responses from the public.

GN cant be as dumb as KT, though I do get irritated with them at times.

It makes you wonder at what time the guy went out shopping, my 12 year old is in bed before 9pm, cos if he isn't he cant get up for school!

And the police's would be better spent arresting drivers, thieves blah blah blah
