Galloway on Fox News! I love the GUY! And you're not giving him enough credit.
Humm…
I think the first thing I have to add is that the mass population in any society is not as intelligent as many of you would like to think. I’m sure that very few people retain the facts they hear during debates, the dates or incidents that need to be recalled in order to make an informed opinion. But what does stick with most of us is emotional appeal.
This interview is the first I’ve seen of Galloway. I knew nothing about the man prior, but you have to note that this interview has made waves across the net recently and there is a reason for it. It’s not that he’s a quack, or that he’s a raving lunatic as many of you would like to imply. There are many of those out there on both sides, including this woman, who’s getting interview after interview raving her ‘educated’ anti-everything-but-America, who doesn’t make such a scene. There’s also the Shirley Phelps-Roper, a raving bible thumping lunatic who has gotten a lot of media attention, but never the internet or blog attention, as far as I’ve seen.

Debbie Schlussel on Mel Gibson & Extremist Muslims in the States. This is a YouTube video, my apologies to those of you who can’t access this.
Google Shirley Phelps-Roper and you get 85,500 results.
YouTube interview with Phelps to give those of you who have access an idea.
Google George Galloway and you get 8,240,000 results.
The point I’m trying to make is this man has made such a wave because his speaking DOES appeal in one way or another to Westerners and Arabs alike. That response is getting heard and it is effective in more ways that Psamtani and those that agree with him are giving it credit for. For starters, more people are hearing it! I’m a westerner, and he appeals to me. I do not think of him as a lunatic but rather as one of the few who is able to make clear the issues that need to be made clear despite Fox’s biased approach to everything, and he does it with a passion that is virtually unforgettable to the viewers like myself.
As for the claims that his credibility was harmed because he was on Celebrity Big brothers and the like; wouldn’t that be like saying that internationally Bush is more accepted as the president of the Super Power, then say Clinton who also made a number of less than desirable mistakes? Sorry… The two actions of this man hardly have any relevance to one another from what I can see. Clinton had an affair and lied about it! He still did his job and used some tact when dealing with international issues. He'd still get my vote (and my bet is many American votes) over Bush's any day! Celebrity Big Brother hardly has anything to do with what Galloway knows or says when it comes to politics. And yeah, Psamtani, are you implying that you’d NOT smoke a cigar with Saddam should you be given that chance?
This entry was inspired by the conversation that’s happening here in the UAE community blog. I just wanted to add my two-cents but ended up writing way too much to post there.
And I’m giggling at how I know Psamtani is going to respond to this.

Let me get this straight, just because you googled and got 8'240 K # of hits means this man called George Galloway is an admirable character?
He's purely an opportunist who's on no one's side except his own.
The President of Iran on the other hand, now he's what I call a Man's Man who had the Balls to write a Letter to Dubya (GW) who was too dumb to understand its contents and that was 'Good things come in small packages'.
Hi! i don't know how I got here but I'm glad I did, it's a great blog :) As for G.Galloway, I found the interview refreshing, not tip-toeing around a stinky egg. I don't care about his character, most politicians are not "admirable characters", how whatever their PR are trying to make the public believe. And then, since when do you need to be a kitty-stroking, silly-smiling, children-kissing (wait, strike that) daisy-smelling grandpa-character in order to be right in your opinions? G.G. is not Santa Claus. Screw the PC and tell it like it is (oh no, wait, that Dr Phil...)
Symphony... No. You missed the point.
What I was saying is he's been mentioned, talked about and been heard more often than other raving lunatics - and thus the reason he's getting attention can't simply be because he's a nut.
;)
'He's purely an opportunist who's on no one's side except his own.'
And there's no point in debating an opinion now, is there? I won't argue it.
What I liked was that for once a lightweight, biased presenter was put in her place by the person being interviewed.
I thought he could have been more restrained so that he would have come across as a litle more thoughtful, but that's his personality.
But ten out of ten for telling it like it is and showing her and Sky News for what they are. Most people give too much respect to the amateurish presenters we see far too many of these days.
Samoum...
((Sorry, this is late)) But LOL! Welcome.
Seabea... I agree with just about everything, only I can see how and why he responded the way he did without linking it to his personality (I guess because I don't know his personality as this is the first I've seen of him). Imagine the defensive shield he must have put up PRIOR to the interview knowing it was Fox, and then watch it increase as she worded her 'preposterous' introduction & initial question...
I don't know if you guys noticed this. The shrewd Zionist TV actually reduces the volume of Galloway's speech and increases the (ape) anchor's volume to such an extent that she sounds a giant. Still, all she conveys is a squeak.
Also watch Galloway's address to a London rally. Im sure you want have a problem searching for it ;)
Woman, you're driving me nuts.
I’m a westerner, and he appeals to me.
Westerner my ass, you know what population I'm referring to. You've aligned yourself with the Palestinians on this one - don't pretend to be neutral. There goes our queen, playing both sides as always.
What I was saying is he's been mentioned, talked about and been heard more often than other raving lunatics
It's because he has no credibility and people are never going to listen seriously to what he has to say. Besides, he's hilarious.
And about passion - it's a strange thing - it appeals to people who are already on your side, but it alienates those who aren't. And most people aren't. George Bush speaks with a stubborn passion, and the Reds love it. But the rest of the world despises him for it. Galloway is not so different.
Incidentally, I finally got around to watching 'Munich' yesterday. And it's absolutely brilliant. That's something that gets people thinking, unlike a shouting match between a ditzy Sky reporter and a pompous British drag queen. Go watch it if you haven't already.
On an unrelated note, I was at the organic grocery yesterday, which reminded me of you. I noticed that all the women in and around the store were super-pretty too, do you have any ex-colleagues from your herbal medicine store you could set me up with ;?
Psamtani...
That is your debate?
No, no... Doesn't work. Go and read the post again, and address the points I made instead of picking on what fields I play. From where I’m sitting, it looks like you’re playing both fields, as it’s well known that I’m pro-Palestine and Anti-Zionist! There's no doubt. But that's irrelevant to the fact that my opinion counts; that I am a westerner & a Muslim. By the way, I BECAME Muslim... I wasn't born this way. I learned. I'm sure the westerners you are referring to are capable of doing the same thing.
And for future reference, I was in fact agreeing with Secret Dubai when I said I'm a westerner and he appeals to me. (Can't believe you missed that, and didn't use that as your angle!) I wasn't attempting to play anything, except I know better than most Westerners who have never seen, smelt or known the Arab world as intimately as I have.
So... I don't count as a Muslim in earlier debates with you. And now, I don't count as a Westerner? Make up your mind about where I fit in and let me know, so I know what you can and can't accept from me in the future.
‘It's because he has no credibility and people are never going to listen seriously to what he has to say. Besides, he's hilarious.’
So you didn’t watch the bible thumping lunatic I linked, did you? Just like you didn't seem to catch how I don't think this Big Brother thing has anything to do with G.Galloway's polotics; like Clinton's lies have nothing to do with his presidency!
Aaaaaand... It was alternative health company, NOT herbal meds. And nope, no hotties I can recommend from there.
Ahmed, no I hadn't noticed that... Not shocking though, considering the forum!
'I BECAME Muslim... I wasn't born this way. I learned.'
Umm, I worded that wrong. Because according to our beliefs we're ALL born Muslim. I meant, I wasn't raised in a Muslim family, before someone shoots me for this!
And for future reference, I was in fact agreeing with Secret Dubai when I said I'm a westerner and he appeals to me.
Yeah, Im getting sloppy... I can't believe it either.
So... I don't count as a Muslim in earlier debates with you. And now, I don't count as a Westerner? Make up your mind about where I fit in and let me know, so I know what you can and can't accept from me in the future.
Neither, you're tainted, remember. I wouldn't put you in either category.
So you didn’t watch the bible thumping lunatic I linked, did you?
Nope, PC problems are preventing me from running youtube vids.
Due to my sloppiness, I concede defeat this time. But I still don't agree with you on Galloway being an asset. By conceding defeat, I'm just saying you've made a better argument.
BTW, have you watched Munich?
Because according to our beliefs we're ALL born Muslim. I meant, I wasn't raised in a Muslim family ..!
I'm a bit curious, as this statement sounds interesting. If it's no trouble, could you elaborate on this one?

The belief in Islamic theology, and thus the faith of all Muslims, is that every human being is born a "Muslim", ie in a sinless state with a clean, pure heart. It is then the parents, the society and the environment that makes some people into Christians, others into Atheists, and some into Jews and so on.
Hence, many Western converts to Islam prefer to use the term "revert" to describe themselves, as they believe that they have merely reverted to their original state of being a Muslim.
This is of course an article of faith for the believers, and hence I guess that it is not something that non-believers would be expected to relate to.

Apologies for barging in - Tainted, please feel free to edit/remove as appropriate.
Psamtani…
You got yourself off too easy. :) No, I’ve not seen that movie.
Symphony, Moderate Enlightenment has pretty much explained it, but the way he’s described it is a little harsh sounding (at least the way I read it… I’m learning about perspective you see?).
At the state of birth as he said we’re all born innocent. Muslims believe that we have inner knowledge at even that time that there is One God, and the definition of Islam (being a Muslim) is ‘submission to One God’. We’re born with a conscience that allows us to ‘feel’ right from wrong – it’s natural, not taught, not learned by religion or society. However, the conscience gets altered as we grow by external influences.
Pretty much, if you’ve no religious education, no social influence and you don’t even know what the terms ‘Muslim’, ‘Christian’ or ‘Jew’ mean, you’ll still have inner faith of a singular God and you’ll still have uninfluenced gut feelings to lead you from right to wrong.
Hope this helps a little. Maybe someone else can expand because it’s been a LONG time since I looked into anything religious to get all the details.
ME: Thank you for your response, which of course is not convincing but thanks anyway.
TF: As usual, you have a wonderful way of explaining things in a more logical manner than anyone I know. Thank you.
rofl @ Balushi...
I can picture it now.
