Googling Lables: Anti-Semite, Antiblack & Islamophobia
Inspired by the conversation taking place in the comments on my last post, I thought I should check out the frequency of use of these three terms. Here’s what I found:
Web Search
The word Anti-Semite found in Google web search currently provides 2,680,000 results.
The word Islamophobia found in Google web search currently provides 1,280,000 results.
The word Antiblack in Google web search currently shows 78,000 results.
And because antiblack may also be written with a hyphen;
The word anti-black in Google web search currently shows 432,000 results.
News Search
The word Anti-Semite in Google News search shows 1,409 results.
The word Islamophobia in Google News search shows 237 results.
The word Antiblack in Google News search currently shows 0 results.
And with the hyphen,
The word Anti-black in Google News search shows 106 results.

Conclusion…
The term anti-Semitism seems far more wide-spread, used, and emphasized than any of the other words to define specific prejudice against a certain ethnic group. It’d make sense if Jews were the worst persecuted, or the largest ethnic group, maybe; but that’s just not the case. Why is Anti-Semitism so much more emphasized, so much more profound than the rest?

The word 'Semite' or 'Semitism' has a wider definition and is not only attributed to Jews. I cited its definition in your earlier post.

If you look it up in Wikipedia, or dictionary.com... it's specific to Jews: the words Semite & Anti-Semite. Especially in modern use.
Where did you find that definition? You didn't quote a source.

You learn new things every day - I always thought and still think that semitism was/is jew specific. but who can trust wikipedia, there is a lot of stuff on it that cant be believed, I mean anyone can edit it cant they?

well well.. i really like this post.. well done :)
a few reasons why you got what u got:
1- the central theme of jews is suffering. it's instilled with them at an early age. hence they tend to write more about it.
2- media is generally sympathetic to semites belonging to the jewish branch
3- unfortunately jews are generally better educated than muslims or blacks and more tech savvy hence they are more likely to both write about it and use the net to do it as well.
a final word.. might be worth adding the number of jews in the world (around 20 m) the number of muslims (around 1,000 m) and the number of blacks (they have a whole continent! in general that is!)

I hear your reasoning, and even suppose it might be plausible... but I'm left with a few questions.
Why is the international media more sensitive to the problems faced by the Jews than anyone else? Could it be that Jews pretty much run international media?
And... Ok, Jews are more educated for the most part. But with the populations as you've just mentioned... is it possible that they're the only ones using this term, or that they're using it most often?
Or could it be that 'brain washing' of general public through international (predominantly Jewish run)media that we were discussing previously in another post, that forces most other people to recognize this term with greater value than any of the others?
Someone mentioned in the comments of the last post that the term 'antiblack' was hardly ever used in America. I'll second that being a Canadian and never hearing it prior to this post. But I'm sure all American's have used the word anti-Semite. Why the stress here, and not on the group that (arguably) suffered most at the hands of American's in the past?
As AD pointed out also somewhere, the term "Islamophobia" really only came into use after 9/11.

your highness...the influence does not come from the jews as per se.....i think we have forgotten to add...christian zionists around the world..in general support Israel...the biblical view that God will bless those who bless the Jewish people is the principle uphold by them including a judeo christian society such as the US...therefore it is their biblical responsibility to stem out not just anti semitism but also anti zionism.

T, some of the questions you ask, I sometimes wonder, if its really you?
Everything that you've raised in this and your previous post has been discussed, debated and the answers pretty much evident.
For every problem, there's a solution be it through violence or non-violence (personally, I prefer the latter) not because I'm a pacifist or scared but because, I like to think with my head. You bet, I don't friggin subscribe to that theory of an 'eye for an eye'.
We're human (all of us, regardless of our religion) - what separates us from animals (I sometimes wonder) is our ability to think rationally and distinguish right from wrong, black from white, etc.
So, let's start acting like humans and find a common solution instead of shit-facing each other based on stats on wiki, google, dictionary.com and whatever else.
To all those that are interested, remember, we're all heroes if caught at the right moment, so let's start acting like one instead of villians!

antisemite got under 3 million hits on google but "racist" got me 54,500,000 hits!
i believe racism against blacks tends to be called more racism than antiblack. and racism tends to be never used against jews.

As for racism, someone else mentioned that in the last post. But the term is general, and used for blacks, indians, native indians, Arabs, and on and on again. You see?
